Oshili Namib Desert, Sossusvlei and Etosha Tour

Tour Description

We start the tour with a visit to beautiful Sossusvlei – place with the highest dunes in the World and continue to travel through the Namib-Naukluft Park to Swakopmund, admiring beautiful scenery along the way. A coastal adventure where we visit the Welwitchia mirabilis, one of the oldest and most original, living plants on the Earth, and finish off with a wildlife experience in Etosha, that will create lasting memories. This will be a dream come true adventure like no other!!!

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Shortly after breakfast at any hotel/lodge situated in Windhoek we travel south to world-famous Sossusvlei via Spreetshoogte Pass. We make a quick stop at the view point to admire the beauty of the Namib. The activities in the afternoon include a visit to the fascinating rock formation of the Sesriem Canyon and in the late afternoon we climb Elim Dune, overlooking scenic desert horizon.

Distance: 350 km on gravel road
Duration: +/- 5 to 6 hours including stops
Accommodation: 2 nights at any one of the beautiful lodges in and around Sossusvlei  

Day 2

We leave early in the morning, just before sunrise for Sossusvlei. We start off by climbing Dune 45, this is a must do and we recommend this to everyone. After Dune 45 it is off to the surreal Dead Vlei, a place of vast desert pan where dried-up, ancient acacias stand silent in the open-air gallery. If you are up for it, you can take on climbing one of the highest dunes on Earth, the “Big Daddy”’ or “Big Mama”. Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei are considered to be one of the most photogenic and some of the most photographed places on Earth and make for beautiful memories!

Be on the lookout, you may just see the occasional wildlife: ostriches, Oryx, bat-eared foxes, springboks, possibly cheetah and various birds inhabiting the desert.

Optional activity in the afternoon: Hot Air Ballooning.

Day 3
After breakfast, we make our way to the north-west, to Swakopmund, set on the Atlantic coast. En route there is a good chance of spotting ostriches, springboks, mountain zebras and Oryx grazing in their natural habitat, so be on the look out! We should arrive in Swakopmund, early afternoon.

Meals: breakfast, dinner at Swakopmund.
Distance: around 320 km on gravel roads.
Duration of travel: around +/- 6 hrs with stops for lunch and pictures.
Accommodation: 2 nights at hotel in Swakopmund  

Day 4  

In the morning, just after breakfast, we make our way to Walvisbay where we will take a boat cruise to view pink Flamingos and fur seals. If we lucky we might see Dolphins. The boat cruise usually takes about 3 hours. We make our way back to Swakopmund just around lunch. In the afternoon you have a relaxed time off to take in and explore Swakopmund or do one of the below optional activities:

- Visit at fascinating Crystal Gallery – exhibition of magnificent, Namibian crystals, some of the biggest specimen in the World, as well as rich selection of semi-precious stones. Entrance: EUR 5.00 p/p

Distance: 100 km on gravel and tar roads.

Day 5

After breakfast on our way to Namibia’s premier tourist attraction – Etosha National Park! Etosha is one of the world’s largest Game Parks, extending more than 350km from east to west. The wide-open plains, numerous waterholes and large number of game (estimates: 200 Lions, 16000 Zebras, 7000 Oryx/Gemsbok, 2500 Elephants, 3000 Giraffes, 600 Black Rhino, and many more other species) makes visits to Etosha very rewarding. Afternoon game drive.

Meals: breakfast, dinner.

Distance: around 500 km on tarred and gravel roads.

Duration: around 5 to 6 hours with stops for sight-seeing and lunch.

Accommodation: 2 nights at lodges in and around Etosha

Day 6
Today we continue our Etosha adventure with an extended game drive in the morning, trying to take in as much of this beautiful park and its wild animals as we can. The large variety of birds and the ease with which they may be observed has made Etosha a popular birding venue. Larger birds such as the Secretary bird and Kori Bustard and numerous birds of prey are frequently spotted.

Meals: breakfast, dinner.
Distance: around 200 km on gravel routes of Etosha. 

Day 7 

After a week filled with unforgettable adventures, we are heading to the international airport. We will say our goodbyes and wish you a safe journey, till we see you again on a safari in Africa – with Oshili Namibia Travel and Tours cc!

Duration: 6 hrs.
